Many of the communal staircases (known locally as closes) in Glasgow’s traditional sandstone tenements are lined with tiles to make it easier to keep them clean. While most of these tiles are relatively plain, some are beautiful works of art. This wooden coaster features a particularly fine example. The coaster is 9cm cm by 9cm cm, and features a high-quality print of an individual vintage tile from a Glasgow tenement.
