The communal stairwells (known as closes) of many of Glasgow’s Victorian and Edwardian tenements were clad in tiles in order to make them easier to keep clean. While some of these tiles were relatively plain, others (especially those from the Art Nouveau period) are highly decorative and are like little works of art.
This print is a high quality photograph of an original tile from a tenement close. The print itself is 6.5 by 6.5 inches (16.5 by 16.5 cm) and comes mounted in a white 2 inch (5.5 cm) mount with a total size of 12 inches by 12 inches (30.5 by 30.5cm).
