This print shows an access cover with the ATM monogram written in a distinctive Art Nouveau font. ATM stands for Automatic Telephone Manufacturing Company, and despite the company’s name, it’s part of an early automated traffic light system which used pneumatic sensors to detect approaching vehicles. The ATM logo dates from between 1911 and 1932, when it was replaced by a similar ATE logo, standing for the Automatic Telephone and Electric Company. However, the company soon reverted to using its original ATM logo and this continued in use until 1961.
The print itself is 7.25 inches by 9 inches (18.5 cm by 23cm), and it comes mounted in a white 1.5 inch (3.5 cm) mount with a total size of 10 inches by 12 inches (25.5 cm by 30.5cm).
